Meet Q.

Exploring the frontiers of computing through accessibility, connection, and moving beyond 2D display.

Intro

Quiddale O’Sullivan, or Q, for short. Not to be confused with the quartermaster to Mi6 operatives, Q has lived in London and worked on devices of similar intrigue, such as Meta’s augmented reality research glasses, Project Aria. Son of a quirky florist and fermentor of all plants and appreciator of false opposites, Q has a masters in architecture that he applies to computer science; he is a full stack developer who thinks more than codes and is a dyslexic with radical ideas on how to order and interact with the world's information.

Work

Q is a Research Design Prototyper. The key skills he possesses are working with engineers, designers, and researchers to bring emerging technologies to life. He works with researchers to help define the future of Machine Learning and computers that work all day long and instantly respond to every action you have. The companies he has applied this at have been some of the biggest technology companies in the world. Q thrives working within highly interdisciplinary organisations and in dynamic, loosely structured environments. Q enjoys not knowing what he will be working on next quarter and the creative chaos of it all with just enough rigour to keep us moving forward.

[…] if you were supplied with a computer…that worked all day long and was instantly responsive to every action that you had…how much value could you derive from that?”

— Doug Engelbart, 1967

Q thrives in a constantly evolving environment and takes responsibility for setting the direction and leading the execution. Q constantly works across multidisciplinary teams to ensure the core idea is communicated, the team is organised, and the planning has a clear layout. Q truly thrives working in a loosely structured environment. There has always been an element of enjoying the uncertainty and constantly figuring out what to do next. There is always an element of introducing a bit of rigour, but not too much, so it does not kill the team's spirit. Q is motivated to make the world a better place through technology. He is most passionate about 0-1 product concepts and has bold ideas in areas including haptics, computer vision, audio, user experience, and perceptual psychology, working to solve novel problems from first principles and ideas that are reviewed by leadership.
